Merrick

Merrick is a suburb of New York City with a population of 20,679. Merrick is in Nassau County. Living in Merrick offers residents a sparse suburban feel and most residents own their homes. In Merrick there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Residents of Merrick tend to lean conservative. The public schools in Merrick are highly rated.

The main north-south artery, Merrick Avenue, has the largest concentration of mom-and-pop stores running north from the train station, including restaurants, nail salons, a barber, a Pilates studio and a florist, as well as a newly expanded Stop & Shop supermarket, said Douglas Mills, a past president of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce. Along Merrick Avenue south of Sunrise Highway is the Merrick Library; nearby are a number of synagogues and churches.

The Town of Hempstead’s Merrick Road Park has basketball courts and baseball fields; the nearby golf course has nine holes. The Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve has a kayak launch into Meadow Brook, a 500-foot fishing pier on Merrick Bay and about three miles of hiking and jogging trails.
